1.Summary
When the nerve inside a tooth becomes infected, root canal treatment removes the infection, cleans and shapes the canals and seals them, so you can keep the tooth instead of losing it. With modern rotary instruments and good anaesthetic, it feels much like having a filling.
2.Procedure
- 2.1Assessment and X-ray to confirm the tooth can be saved
- 2.2First visit: infection removed and canals cleaned
- 2.3Second visit: canals sealed and the tooth filled
- 2.4A crown fitted a few weeks later if needed
3.Findings
| # | Result | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 3.1 | Rotary instruments for quicker, more comfortable treatment | Pass |
| 3.2 | Magnification for accurate cleaning | Pass |
| 3.3 | X-rays before, during and after | Pass |
| 3.4 | Temporary pain relief at the first visit | Pass |
| 3.5 | Crown advised afterwards to protect the tooth | Pass |
4.Notes & limitations
- 4.1Some tenderness for a few days is normal
- 4.2Back teeth with curved roots may be referred to a specialist
