When we took over a neglected half-acre plot three years ago, it was brambles and broken glass. This summer it produced more than 500kg of fruit and vegetables for the food bank and community kitchen.
Gardening on prescription
Seven local GP surgeries now refer patients to the garden through social prescribing. Many arrive feeling anxious or isolated. A few weeks of digging, planting and tea breaks with others often does more than any leaflet could.
What's new
Volunteers from two local businesses built a wildlife pond and four new raised beds for wheelchair users. The polytunnel gave us tomatoes into October, and our young gardeners' club grew a pumpkin the size of a wheelbarrow.
Come and dig in
Sessions run every Wednesday and Saturday morning. No experience needed; we provide the tools, gloves and the cake. Just bring clothes you don't mind getting muddy.
