Over the last twelve months our food bank handed out more than 9,800 parcels in Melbourne, up 38% on the year before. Behind every one of those numbers is a person, and their stories have changed.
Working families
Five years ago most people we saw were out of work. Today, nearly half of the households we support have at least one adult in a job. Rising rents and energy bills mean a pay packet often runs out a week before payday.
More than food
That's why every visitor is offered a conversation with our advisors. Last year that help brought in more than £1.2 million in benefits and grants that people were entitled to but not receiving, which does far more than a food parcel ever could.
How you can help
Tinned fish, UHT milk, tinned fruit and toiletries are always in short supply. A regular gift lets us buy what we're missing before the shelves run low, and volunteering for a single shift on a Tuesday or Friday makes a huge difference.
