Chapter 2 · Our story
How Harbour Light Community Trust became Plymouth's favourite charity.

Where it started
Harbour Light Community Trust is a local charity making sure nobody in Plymouth goes hungry, lonely or without help. Our food bank, community meals, befriending, youth and advice programmes are run by a small team and more than 400 volunteers, and funded almost entirely by people like you.
Harbour Light Community Trust begins. A handful of neighbours start a weekly lunch club in a church hall for older people living alone.
Today Harbour Light Community Trust looks after supporters right across Plymouth, and we still treat every visit like our very first.

I was so embarrassed the first time I came in. Nobody made me feel small. They gave me a parcel, a cup of tea and sorted out the benefit I'd been missing for months.
Since my wife passed, Thursday is the day I look forward to. Sam comes round, we do the crossword and argue about football. I'd be lost without him.
