Remote onboarding fails quietly. New hires don't want to bother anyone, so they sit stuck for days. A clear 30-day plan with real tasks removes the guesswork for both sides.
Week one: access and context
Get every account set up before day one. Spend the first week on reading, shadowing and short intro calls with the people they'll work with most. End the week with one small, real task shipped.
Weeks two and three: real ownership
Hand over a contained piece of work with a clear outcome. Pair them with a buddy who isn't their manager, and keep a shared onboarding project so progress is visible to everyone.
Week four: reflect and plan
Run a short retro: what was confusing, what helped, what's missing from the docs. Then agree on goals for the next 60 days. Feed what you learn back into the template for the next hire.
