Where it started

Every restaurant has an origin story. Here's ours.

  1. 1

    The idea

The Larder Room is a neighbourhood restaurant in Whitby cooking over fire with produce from farms we know by name. Relaxed lunches, long dinners and a short, honest wine list, served by people who love what they do.

  2. 2

    Opening the doors

The Larder Room opens. A 30-cover dining room with a single grill opens on Harbour Row in Whitby.

  3. 3

    Today

Today The Larder Room looks after guests right across Whitby, and we still treat every visit like our very first.

The flatbread alone is worth the trip. We've been coming to The Larder Room every month for a year and it's never been anything less than brilliant. Warm, unfussy and the food is outstanding. #TheLarderRoom

Booked the tasting menu for my partner's birthday. Seven courses, every one a highlight, and the team sang happy birthday without making it awkward. The ribeye course was unreal.

So rare to find a restaurant where the vegan main isn't an afterthought. The roast celeriac was the best thing on our table, and my steak-eating friends agreed.

Local Eats

The Larder Room is the kind of place every neighbourhood deserves: confident cooking, fair prices and a room that feels like a dinner party. One of the best meals I've had in Whitby this year.

We held our team dinner for 18 in the private room. The sharing menu was generous, the wine suggestions were spot on and the host made everything effortless.

The Sunday roast is the best in town, full stop. Book ahead though, it sells out early and we've missed the beef twice. Worth getting there for 12.
